The Tea On Wedding Day GlamNarrated by Ashanta Artistry

When people find out I specialize in bridal hair and makeup, they’re sometimes surprised to hear that not all makeup artists and hairstylists enjoy doing weddings.

For a long time, I didn’t understand why. I have always loved being part of the wedding world. But after more than a decade as a bridal hair stylist and makeup artist, I understand something that isn’t always obvious from the outside: weddings require far more than technical skill. They require emotional intelligence, intuition, patience, and a calm presence.

If my calling hadn’t been glam, my role on a wedding day would probably still be somewhere behind the scenes—maybe in florals or décor—because I genuinely love the energy of wedding days. But being part of the bridal glam team is a very unique role.

The Reality of Being a Bridal Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist

Providing bridal hair and makeup services means working very closely with the bride during one of the most emotional days of her life.

As artists, we’re often present for the moments most people don’t see:the nerves, the timeline stress, family dynamics, and all the behind-the-scenes emotions that can affect a bride’s overall mood on the day.

The pressure of a wedding day would affect any human being, and the bride is no exception. Some brides handle that pressure more easily than others.

Part of our job as a wedding makeup artist or bridal hairstylist is helping manage those emotions by being a calm, grounding presence during what can be a hectic morning.

Not every artist wants that role—and that’s okay.

Sometimes artists interpret bridal stress as a “bridezilla” moment when in reality it’s simply a person experiencing a lot of pressure in a short amount of time.

Energy Matters on Your Wedding Morning

I personally don’t see brides that way.

I’m a big believer that people often mirror the energy they’re given.

If an artist approaches the day with ego, impatience, or a diva-like presence, it can unintentionally increase the bride’s anxiety. During an already stressful morning, that energy can feel like fuel on the fire.

My philosophy is the opposite.

My job isn’t just to make my brides look beautiful. It’s to help them feel their most beautiful and supported.

The glam chair should feel like the calm before the ceremony—not another source of stress.

Bridal hair and makeup should never be part of the storm on a wedding day.

Why Bridal Hair and Makeup Trials Are So Important

This is exactly why bridal hair and makeup trials are such an important part of the process.

Yes, the trial allows us to perfect the look so everything runs smoothly on the wedding day.

But the trial serves another equally important purpose:it gives the bride and artist the opportunity to make sure their personalities and energies align.

Your bridal artist will be one of the first people you spend time with on your wedding day. The energy in the room matters.

Meeting ahead of time allows the bride to feel confident that her artist understands her vision and is genuinely there to support her.

When a bride knows her artist truly has her back—when she knows the focus is on her, not the artist’s ego—she can relax and feel safe in the glam chair.

And when a bride feels safe and supported, the entire morning flows better.

Consider using your trial run as an opportunity to have your bridal portraits taken-Like client below.

Why I Still Love Weddings After More Than a Decade

I believe this awareness is one of the things that truly differentiates me as a bridal hair and makeup artist.

Understanding that the job is about more than makeup and hair—it’s about presence, energy, and support—is what has allowed me to continue loving weddings after more than a decade of working with brides. For me, being part of someone’s wedding morning is an honor. Helping a bride feel calm, confident, and radiant before she walks down the aisle is one of the most meaningful parts of what I do.
